Las amapolas

No hay flor que me inspire más que la amapola. Verlas es remontarme a mi niñez, cuando los jardínes públicos de mi ciudad natal - la Guadalajara mexicana- estaban llenos de amapolas.

Huelen horrible, pero su olor, se olvida con la imagen fulgurante de sus pétalos. No hay nada tan sutil y seductor como sus pétalos.

Son tan delgados que la menor de las brisas los doblan, son tan tersos que reflejan la luz del sol casi como espejos, son translúcidos como el alabastro, son sexo vegetal y alcaloides.

Por eso, por tener alcaloides se prohibieron en los jardines. Pero hoy han vuelto.

Están de vuelta en los jardines de mi ciudad natal, están con su alucinógena sutilidad ornando el entorno, con ese torrente carmín que embriaga, sin pecado, puras, han regresado a tocar con su tono carmín los prados de parques y camellones, de glorietas y almas.

Bienvenidas sean, ellas, las reinas de todo jardín, de todo paraíso.

There is no flower that inspires me more than the poppy. Seeing them is to go back to my childhood, when the public gardens of my hometown - the Mexican Guadalajara -were full of poppies.

They smell horrible, but you forget the odor, with the dazzling image of its petals. There is nothing so subtle and seductive as its petals.

They are so thin that the slightest breezes bent them, are so smooth that reflect sunlight almost like mirrors, are translucent like alabaster, are sex and alkaloids.

So, because their alkaloids, have been banned from the gardens. But today they're back.

They're back in the gardens of my hometown, they're with their subttle and hallucinogenic beauty, adorning the environment, with their crimson stream that intoxicates, sinless, pure, have returned to play with their crimson tone, covering meadows and ridges, parks, gazebos and souls.

We welcome it, them, the queens of all gardens, and any paradise.
